Seniors Job Bank Celebrates 50th Anniversary – State Senator Attends and Board Member Honored
State Senator Derek Slap and West Hartford Mayor, Shari Cantor attended the Seniors Job Bank’s 50th Anniversary Open House, a landmark event celebrating SJB’s long-term service to Connecticut’s senior community. The event, held on December 17, 2024, recognized Board Member Jim Doran for his years of dedicated service and commitment to the mission of the organization.
Seniors Job Bank has been a vital resource for adults over 50 looking to stay active and engaged in the workforce by connecting mature jobseekers with a diverse array of opportunities across businesses, municipalities, homeowners, and individuals. SJB helps seniors maintain financial independence and purpose.
Senator Derek Slap, a long-time advocate for senior citizens and workforce development, spoke at the event, commending the Seniors Job Bank for its enduring impact. “The Seniors Job Bank has made an incredible difference in the lives of so many Connecticut seniors,” said Senator Slap. “This organization has not only helped individuals find meaningful employment, but has also fostered a sense of community, empowerment, and lifelong learning. I am proud to support their continued efforts and to celebrate this significant milestone.”
West Hartford Mayor, Shari Cantor added, “The Town of West Hartford has supported the Seniors Job Bank since its inception. We are proud to honor the Seniors Job Bank and the important work that they do.”
The event also honored Jim Doran, who has served on the Seniors Job Bank’s Board of Directors for many years. Through his leadership, the organization has expanded its outreach and enhanced its services to better meet the needs of Connecticut’s senior population.
“I’m deeply honored by this recognition,” said Jim Doran. “The Seniors Job Bank has always been about helping people—especially those who may feel overlooked by traditional workplace employment practices. We’ve always strived to give seniors a chance to contribute, stay engaged, and remain active in the community, and I look forward to continuing that mission for many more years.”
The open house brought together community leaders, local partners, Board members, and advocates for seniors, celebrating the vital role that the Seniors Job Bank plays in enhancing the lives of older adults. The event included opportunities for networking, sharing success stories, and learning about the services the organization offers to both job seekers and employers.
