Update on West Hartford Center Project: Roadway Reclamation on LaSalle Road Begins September 15

West Hartford, CT – The Town of West Hartford will begin roadway reclamation on LaSalle Road from ...September 15 through October 10 as part of the West Hartford Center Infrastructure Project. Work will start on the east side of LaSalle Road, with crews completing one side of the roadway before moving to the other. Each side is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

Roadway reclamation is a paving method where the existing asphalt pavement and a portion of the underlying base are pulverized, blended, and reused in place—often with stabilizing additives—before being paved over with new asphalt. By reusing materials, this process produces a uniform, stabilized base layer, and reduces waste while extending the life of the roadway surface. The result is a more environmentally sustainable approach to construction that improves durability and long-term performance. Originally a simple mill and overlay was planned for LaSalle Road. Unfortunately, there were unforeseen issues during construction which resulted in this scope change.

To maintain accessibility during construction, LaSalle Road will remain open to one-way traffic. While work is occurring on the east side, LaSalle Road will be open to southbound traffic only. When the work shifts to the west side, LaSalle Road will be open to northbound traffic only. Additional signage, traffic control, and pedestrian barriers will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists, and all crosswalks will remain open. Businesses will continue to be open and fully accessible. Driveway access will also be maintained with temporary gravel ramps.

To support businesses and visitors during construction, the Town is offering free on-street parking on LaSalle Road and Farmington Avenue while the roadway reclamation is underway. Alternative parking options can also be found using the WeHa Parking Finder App. The Town Center Garage will remain open with access from South Main Street at Memorial Road. A full list of businesses that are open and ready to welcome visitors can be found at the WeHa Center website.

As with earlier construction activities in the Center, the Town will continue efforts to minimize noise, dust, and disruption.
