West Hartford homeowners who are 65 years old as of December 31, 2025, or 100% disabled through Social Security (no age requirement) and meet specific guidelines may be eligible for property tax relief.
Eligibility guidelines include a maximum annual income of $46,300 for a single individual and $56,500 for a married couple.
To get your tax credit, you must come into the Assessor’s Office, Room 142 of Town Hall, with proof of all your income from 2025. The Assessor’s Office will be available to complete applications between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please call the Assessor’s Office at 860-561-7414 with any questions.
“I want our elderly homeowners to get what they deserve. I don’t want anyone missing out only because they were not aware of the opportunities that exist for them,” said Joseph Dakers, Town Assessor.
“The application process is simple. For first-time applicants, our friendly staff will meet with you and review all your documents, look at the property record card, and then determine right then and there which programs you qualify for,” he said.
The amount of the credit depends on your income. It operates on a sliding scale, meaning the lower your income, the higher the benefit. The minimum benefit you would receive is $150 for married couples and single people. The maximum is $1,250 for married couples and $1,000 for single people.
Applicants will need to provide their date of birth, Social Security number, and proof of ALL income (taxable and non-taxable) for 2025.
The State of Connecticut requires proof of all income when applying for the Elderly and 100% Disabled Homeowner Programs.
