West Hartford — Conard’s offense came out firing and never let up, as the Red Wolves cruised to a 6–0 victory over Enfield.
Conard got on the scoreboard with just 1:46 remaining in the first quarter, when Berkeley Hess found the back of the net to give the Red Wolves an early 1–0 lead. Conard continued to apply pressure, scoring again with just 30 seconds remaining in the opening quarter as Hazel Montanari doubled the advantage to 2–0.
Enfield responded with strong defensive play to begin the second quarter, working to keep the Red Wolves’ attack in check. Conard eventually broke through again with 7:19 remaining before halftime, as Gigi Smith extended the lead to 3–0.
The Red Wolves added another goal on a penalty shot just before the halftime break, with Smith scoring her second goal of the game to send Conard into halftime with a commanding 4–0 lead.
Enfield continued to battle in the third quarter and came up with one of its biggest defensive plays of the game. With 2:18 remaining in the quarter, Enfield blocked a Conard penalty shot to keep the deficit at four goals.
But Conard’s offensive pressure remained too much to overcome.
The Red Wolves added another goal early in the fourth quarter, with Hess scoring her second goal of the game with 14:02 remaining to push the lead to 5–0. Then, with 3:25 left on the clock, Katie O’Keefe delivered a well-placed shot to make it 6–0.
The victory marks Conard’s third straight win and its ninth victory in its last 10 games dating back to last season. The Red Wolves return home Thursday to face Cheshire, while Enfield travels to Berwick Academy on Friday.
